FINDeRS
OUR STUDIES
The Factors Influencing Neurological Disease Risk and Severity in Multiple Sclerosis (FINDeRS-MS) study has been born out of the Trajectories of Outcomes in Neurological Conditions (TONiC) study, which is an ongoing national study examining the factors that influence quality of life in patients with neurological conditions. It is one of the largest studies on quality of life in neurological conditions ever performed in the UK.
FINDeRS-MS is the next phase of the TONiC study
People wanting to join the FINDeRS-MS study should be a 'trilogy' TONiC participant, which means you must have completed and returned at least 3 questionnaire packs.

WHAT IS THE FINDeRS-MS STUDY INVESTIGATING?
THE RESEARCH QUESTION...
Why does MS affect some people much more than others over their lifetime?
THE STUDY IDEA...
We want to link clinical measures of disease severity in individuals with MS to their DNA and blood proteins to discover the genetic and biological factors that influence MS severity.
THE STUDY METHOD...
We will match the very detailed measures of disease severity recorded by the TONiC study to DNA and immune system proteins by inviting TONiC participants to donate a blood and urine sample. These samples will then be processed at Liverpool University (and will create a 'biobank') and then analysed by researchers at the universities of Liverpool, Cambridge and Nottingham, as well as with help from commercial companies involved in MS research.
